It has come to my attention through the Ready for Anything campaign that my property does not fall within the Fire Rescue Victoria fire and emergency district. Professional firefighters in Victoria are highly trained, requiring four years of specialised training before becoming qualified. Professional firefighters are trained to respond to a wide range of emergency situations – from all types of fires to road accidents to emergency medical incidents, and more. Professional firefighters from Fire Rescue Victoria provide a guaranteed 8-minute response time – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. A rapid response from firefighters is the difference between life and death. A rapid response is also the difference between containment of the fire and spread of the fire to surrounding properties. All Victorian rate payers pay the same Fire Service Levy amount for fire coverage – whether or not they are guaranteed a response from professional firefighters. We value the role of all Victorian emergency services, but we expect professional fire coverage in exchange for paying the Fire Service Levy. I respectfully ask that my local area, and my property, be considered for inclusion in the Fire Rescue Victoria District.
